about

I wrote this song in 20 minutes, two days before premiering it at the Guatemala Jazz Festival in February 2018, when I was given three minutes to make a statement to the world. Women were killed in Antigua, and nothing was done. Protests ignored and murals erased. So I wrote this for the women in Antigua, but it became not only a feminist anthem, but a song for anyone marginalized. They are me, too...

lyrics

Me Too

We’re living in a world of pain
Trying to move ahead
Why do we make it so hard for others
To do the same instead?
When you tried to stifle me
You left me without a choice
When you tried to silence me
I had to raise my voice

Push me down and I will rise back up
Make me cry and I will fill your cup
Say I had it coming and I will own the blame/game
Bury me standing and you will know my name

She is/I am/We are/They are/Me too (4x)

You say my best isn’t good enough
You set the bar so high
Then you raise it double
When I catch your eye
Changing the rules up on me
Trying to push me out
Won’t give me a seat at the table
So I’ll stand up and shout
